CALIFORNIA CITY, Kern County — October 27, 2026. Before paying a fine, replacing landscaping or changing an irrigation timer based on an old city webpage, California City water customers should verify which rules apply today. The city’s official Water Department page continues to display a notice stating that emergency water restrictions are in effect, but its linked detailed restriction text is based on actions adopted in 2015.
What the older notice says
The historic municipal page describes drought-conservation limits involving wasteful runoff, washing pavement, vehicles without shutoff nozzles and landscaping practices. It also lists certain enforcement procedures and an outdoor watering schedule. However, the page cites statewide drought orders and deadlines from 2014–2016. California58 will not treat those historic details as definitive 2026 law without a current municipal resolution or written utility guidance.
Which newer records should residents review?
California City’s official site also features a 2025 Urban Water Management Plan, a 2023 water, recycled water and sewer rate study, online bill payment tools, and a link to its water-service information. Those are different documents: a planning report does not automatically tell customers what watering hours currently apply, and a rate study is not itself an adopted new charge.
How to confirm the current rules
The city’s Water Department lists waterdept@californiacity-ca.gov and City Hall at 760-373-8661. Customers should request the currently effective conservation ordinance, watering schedule, penalties, and any exceptions before changing household practices based on the 2015 archive.
California City’s site describes groundwater and State Water Project deliveries as its water-supply sources. Long-term affordability and reliability therefore depend on infrastructure decisions, conservation, contracts and current hydrology, not one outdated emergency webpage.
Primary sources: California City Water Department, historical city restriction notice and municipal water planning and contact links.
Editorial note: The 2015 text is historical evidence only; California58 does not independently declare every past watering rule enforceable in October 2026.
